Ministry Groups

St. John's has several Ministry groups that meet regularly and provide services to our own congregation and the community around us.

The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a group of the women of the church. All women are automatically members and as such are welcome to attend all meetings and events of this group. They meet monthly for bible study and to work on various projects. They host an annual Spring Luncheon and help send kids to Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Center (LCLC) by funding "camperships".

Men's Association

The Men's Associate of St. John's conducts several fundraisers each year including a Chiavetta's Chicken BBQ and their annual Chowder sale. Over the years the Men's associate has made financial contributions to various special projects around the church and helps support our summer Day Camp program.

Prayer Shawls

The Prayer Shawls group meets monthly to work on prayer shawls for those in need of prayer and baby blankets that are given at baptisms. We knit and crochet and are happy to teach new recruits. Join us for prayer and stitching!

The Quilters group meets weekly to work on hand-made quilts that are then distributed around the world by Lutheran World Relief. They are always in need of a few extra hands!

Meeting times for all our groups can be found on the church calendar.

Community Connections

As part of our commitment to minister to the local community, St. John's provides meeting space for various community groups. Some of the groups we play host to:

  • Girl Scouts - 3 different troops!
  • Lancaster Garden Club
  • Parkinson's Group

Other ways we share the love of God with our community include:

  • Mitten Month in October - we collect mittens and hats that are donated to school children in need in the Buffalo area.
  • Angel Tree program - we participate in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program during the holidays to provide a brighter Christmas for children and elderly adults in need.
